Movie Posters
Art of the modern movie poster : international postwar style and design
I found this in a book that was fill with old movie posters that were created and printed before computers became a tool in design. Its astonishing that these great movie posters where never used for their DVD covers. A lot of these movies where promoted through poster unlike today where they are promoted everywhere. These posters were the only way they can advertise movies and most of the time they weren't successful in stating what the movie was about. I also noticed that most of the posters used Swiss style design which makes them look so clean and simple. These posters where made by Saul Bass.

Hi
Print December 2012
The Hi on the building actually is an abbreviation for Harvard Innovation. Its a lab that has a contemporary design. The Hi really fits well with the building because of the geometric shape of the letters and how well it fits withe the square shape of the building. The typography they chose is perfect for the building; Helvetica. Its also feels as if the building is alive because it says Hi to you and you say hi back. Erin Deeley was the designer.

Advertisment
Print December 2012
So I have noticed this advertisement in all the graphic design magazines. Its not just previous issues, its also in current ones. The campaign is to advertise istockphoto. Stating that people dont have to commit to the company in order to get high quality images and don't need to subscribe and pay a yearly fee for their services. However this doesn't apply to tattoos and is something that cant be undone. As designers we must be familiar with other fields of art and learn photography and other forms of art to become a better designer.

Hummingbird
Communication Arts January/ February 2013
It never occurred to me the fonts and typography was an art. I now see that it is very important and fun art to learn as a designer. I enjoy Laura Worthington's type face design because its so elegant and sensitive. I love the way each letter is capable of connecting with each other so fluently, the way it moves constantly while trying to keep the shape of a humming bird. Its a very beautiful font and I am now interested in taking up calligraphy to learn to write and create beautiful type like this.

MyThai Identity
Communication Arts Janurary/February 2013
Mythai is a Thai food restaurant in Brazil. Their logos create a sense of movement and uses a lot of Thai style art. Like Asian calligraphy and lotus flowers. The logos and designs are well done. I especially appreciate the colors, more Asian like. Its a very traditional look. Designed by Roberto de Vicq de Cumptch.

Studio Shine
Communication Arts November/ December 2012
I had found an article about a motion graphic studio, Shine. It was founder by Michael Riley. The studio had many clients from Dreamworks, Fox, to commercials. They created animated and spontaneous designs that all viewers would enjoy watching. They created opening and endings for Kung Fu Panda, Modern Family, Raising Hope, The News Room an many others. I posted the ending credits for Dreamwork's Kung Fu Panda.
